Tonight at 10pm ET & 7PM PT on “Rockers In Recovery” we will be interviewing 2010 Prism Award nominee Laura C. and we will also have Anthony D’Amato from the awesome rock band D’Amato on the show.
After 20 years of using alcohol and drugs, Laura entered a Recovery Program December 31, 2006. She was unable to find the kind of music that she needed to help her through my process, so she created it. The result of her musical recovery journal, is the CD “The Gift of Brokenness” – 12/Steps-12/Songs. She wrote about everything – from driving drunk in a blackout with her kids in the car, sitting in a meeting and hating everyone there, to the first day she woke up with a glimmer of hope. It is her raw and honest story – and outlines where she was emotionally and spiritually at each step in the recovery process.

Laura has been blessed to be able to record with 4x Grammy Winning Producer, Randy Miller, and wrote and played acoustic piano on all 12 songs.
Also tonight On “Rockers In Recovery” We will be interviewing Anthony D’Amato from the awesome rock band D’Amato on the show. As far as anyone can tell, the seeds that would become D’Amato were sown long before any of its current members (Anthony D’Amato, vocals; Jason Gile, guitar; Dave Filice, bass; Glen Sobel, drums) were even born. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Doors are among the architects of the influences that D’Amato draws from.
Formed in 2005, D’Amato is a four-piece modern rock group with a sense of danger and beauty that’s been missing from the music scene for far too long. Their suitably explosive debut effort “Synesthesia” marks the spot for a new beginning from a band of rock n’ roll brothers united by controversial pasts and an evolving, but positive future.

“We’re all looking for a renaissance here,” explains the group’s founder and frontman, Anthony D’Amato. “Now we have that opportunity and it’s amazing. This music is just as poetic as it is aggressive. Darkness meets hope in a barroom brawl. It forces you to lace your boots up and get ready for the fight. There’s always that ‘F*ck you’ element to it. We really hope to bring some chaos back into the world of rock.”

Everything you’ve heard about D’Amato is true. Their sound is defiantly forward-looking and truly fresh in all senses of that word. “The music is very aggressive,” says bassist Dave Filice. “But the live show is the real rush because there are no safety nets.”

Working with accomplished producers has been an advantage for D’Amato from the beginning. After recording with producer Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, Billy Idol, Offspring) and Grammy winning Producer/Engineer J.J. Blair (Rod Stewart), D’Amato reached out to a friend, Grammy-winning mixer and engineer Thom Russo (Jay-Z, System of a Down, Audioslave) to complete production and mix the four-song EP.

With several television (ABC,NBC,MTV) and film licensing deals to their credit, and a five-star rating on iTunes, D’Amato has excited and enthralled crowds all over the US and beyond with not only performances, but a rapidly increasing internet presence. “The internet has been extremely effective for us,” says D’Amato, “For example, on myspace.com, we had an international listening audience within 48 hours. People are still hungry for music, and the Internet has made it easier for artists and fans to get around the fire.”

What makes D’Amato stand out is a devil-may-care outlook honed by precision and professionalism.

Sherri Lewis on living with AIDS…By Greg Hernandez

sherri.jpgI can’t think of a better time to share this story then on World AIDS Day. I met singer-actress Sherri Lewis Wednesday night at the Ribbon of Hope Celebration and found her to be so inspiring and honest. She has been living with HIV for two decades and has this to say to younger folks who might be a little careless with their bodies: “AIDS still kills – we don’t have a cure, only a few treatements and they don’t always work. These are experimental treatments, they aren’t cures. When you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, you can’t make judgments that are sane.”

Sherri is a nationally known AIDS educator also known as Beachfront. Along with her one-woman show,” Life Is a Beach,” she is a public speaker for UCLA AIDS Institute and Being Alive, and serves on Women At Risk’s board of directors and as the organization’s outreach coordinator.

asherri.jpgSherri and I spoke before the event and I thought she was so impressive. But her keynote address really blew me and the rest of the audience away. She fell in love with a guy in the guy who infected her in the 80s. “Oh my God! He’s so cute! He must be gay. So I ask him, ‘Do you like boys or girls?’ He said, ‘It depends on the person.’” It was a heady time for Lewis. A cute boyfriend and a successful band, Get Wet, that had a video on MTV. But her record label went bankrupt and the boyfriend went back to boys…and left her infected with HIV.

“On April 12, 1987, my thirty-third birthday, the doctor called and said, ‘I am so sorry. Your tests are positive.” He had no other information for her, no treatment advice. He told her to “take good care of her health” and wished her good luck. Lewis remained symptom-free for 10 years and in 1997, breakthrough Protease Inhibitors were effective for her when she became ill.

When Lewis turned 50, someone asked her how she felt. Her answer: ‘AMAZED!”

My Photos | Patrick Duff

I taught myself guitar and started playing and singing on the street for money when I was 17. I didn’t know how to play anyone else’s songs so I made up my own. Sky songs. I never wrote any of them down and I can’t remember anything about them.

“Get in the back of the car you’re gonna be a pop star” that’s what some man shouted out at me one day as I walked down Stokes Croft in Bristol. That man was David Francolini. I got in his car and he introduced me to Alex Lee. Me and Alex got drunk and dropped acid and stayed up all night playing guitars and that was Strangelove. Me, Alex, Julian, Joe and Dave and then John and then Nick. We got signed after 5 gigs to Food/Parlophone/EMI. We toured around UK and Europe a few times with firstly Radiohead and then Suede. Played with the Manic Street Preachers, had a string of top 40 hits, played on the main stage at Glastonbury and Reading, recorded in Studio 2 at Abbey Road where the Beatles did all their albums. I saw my band on the countdown of Top Of The Pops. We did 3 albums and split up in 1998 after 7 years together.

After that I walked around in Leigh Woods, which is a forest outside Bristol, for about 2 years. When I came out of that I had handed my life over to songwriting completely. Then I went to South Africa to write songs with an 83 year old black woman shepherdess called Madosini. I had seen her play at Womad festival and her edgy ancient blues music blew my mind. Madosini had lived in a village in Trans-sky. She had sat playing music on the side of a hill for 70 years before being discovered by Womad. Then me and Madosini toured around doing our thing.

After returning I started writing new songs. Which went on to make up my album called Luxury Problems. The first part of the album was recorded in the middle of nowhere in a cottage in Dartmoor which belongs to Nigel Shaw and Caroline Hillier. This part of the album was produced by Adrian Utley (Portishead). Back in Bristol and Bath I completed the album with Alex Lee producing and recording at Moles studio with Paul Corkett. The album features some of the most amazing musicians, Damon Reece (ex-Spiritualized), Mike Mooney (ex-Spiritualized) and Jim Barr (Portishead). It was released on EMI’s Harvest label on 21st June 2005.

I’ve now written a new album of songs which I will record and hopefully release this year. I run a songwriting workshop which is open to anyone in the world who can make it and it is amazing!

I am happy to be part of the website http://www.patrickduff.com/ and look forward to meeting you.

Love Patrick

Based in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, I grew up with Music including Blues, R&B, Jazz and Rock & Roll. My older sister and brother fed me their old 8 tracks and vinyl, and I knew at an early age that music could satisfy the soul! I learned to play the drums in my early teens, taking lessons from the late Butch Tucker, a prominent Jazz drummer and sought my way to the big time, with dreams of fame and fortune. Well, fame and fortune never really came about, but a transition through playing various genres of music through the eighties finally led me back to the roots of the blues in 1990. Check out more about Tony At http://www.bluessource.com/content.php?name=Anthony Dellaria

While finishing my engineering degree in Syracuse NY, I met a Harp player named Midnight Mike Pettroff (The Dirty Pool, Syracuse, NY). Mike encouraged me to be more open minded as a musician, and after I got honest about the music that made me feel the best, I realized that somehow all good music somehow emanates from the BLUES!

After moving to Tampa Florida in 1993, I had the opportunity to play with another great Harp player, Mr. Philip Bozman, better know as “Nitro”. The list of great, but little known Blues players I have had the opportunity to meet and even play with goes on.

While attending the Tampa Bay and Sarasota Blues Festivals in 1993 -1994, I began taking photographs of various artists, and found another passion other than playing the Blues. Thanks to photographers, journalists, and Blues Fans like Gary Miller and Tim Richards, I became inspired to take the photography a little more seriously, and was encouraged to do something with my photographs. I also got some great support from the Long Island Blues Society, and I suppose I need to mention my wife!

I lucked out in June of 2004, and obtained press access to Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival in Dallas Texas, and since that turning point have tried to attend as many Blues Festivals as time and money allow. There is just something very special about being right up there next to the Artist and getting that special look that lets me know everything really is going to beall right, just like Muddy said!

I post some of my photos at www.msnusers.com/tonydellariasbluespics, although the site needs some serious attention! Also, Gary Miller has given me some great opportunities to post right here at bluessource.com. www.BluesSource.com brings you the real deal when it comes to covering the Blues. I hope you connect often!

Catalyst Altered Water (CAW)

Willard Water

However, today’s soils are depleted. When people consume a diet of foods that come from crops gown in nutrient-deprived soils, our intake of essential elements becomes
inadequate. Quite simply stated, this causes disease. So, we turn to supplements to attempt to restore our body’s elemental balance. That’s why I drink Willard Water every day, just 8oz morning and night.

Willard Water contains high levels of trace minerals found in elements such as lignite, an alteration of organic vegetable matter, which is a key ingredient in Willard Water. Not only does it contain a high concentration of trace minerals, but it also helps our bodies to absorb more of these minerals through its composition. If you care about good health, both for you and your pets, you’ll make Willard Water part of your daily supplement routine.

July 12th 2010 10 PM ET (7PM PT) “Rockers In Recovery” will be interviewing “Northwest Music Scene” which has grown into one of the largest music only networks in the northwest

My name is Glen C. and I am in Recovery,

I grew in Washington State near the Canadian border and early on in my life learned value of hard work and that has stuck with me ever since. Working on fishing boats in Alaska in my late teens, probably had something to do with my work ethic too!

I have loved most forms of music as far back as I can remember. Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Ernest Tubb, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins and many others from that era is what we listened to in our house. My love affair with Rock and Roll didn’t actually start until my late teens. Then I discovered FM radio and Van Halen! I spent many years going to concerts, listening to radio and devouring as much of this music as I could.
To this day, I still have a very wide variety of music that I listen too. My playlist can go from Black Sabbath to Brandi Carlile to classical music and back to Elvis, in a heartbeat.

A few years ago I was given the opportunity to get into a side of music I hadn’t experienced before. That side was promotions and marketing. I fell in love with the challenge of creating something out of nothing.

My site, the Northwest Music Scene has grown into one of the largest music only networks in the Northwest. We like to call it the digital equivalent to a gig poster. Through this site we have been able to expose some extremely talented people to others that would not normally have heard of them. Starting only four months ago the Facebook page is nearing 12,000 fans and nearly 6,000 on Myspace. Our brand new website will be launched soon so stay tuned for some exciting details about that.

My other venture is called Recovery Palooza. Because of my involvement with VIII Days Clean from the promotions side of the band I had the opportunity to see how lives were being affected in a positive way through music. I decided that I would like to do this in more than just the Northwest.

The first Recovery Palooza tour is going to happen in August of 2010. The tour is going to be paid for by VIII Days Clean and it will stretch the length of the West Coast and they will play with other recovering musicians in clean and sober venues along the way.
Recovery Palooza and VIII Days Clean is part of a global recovery movement. We aim to break the myth that recovery is boring and no fun. We have found just the opposite to be true!

I am also very excited to be a Co-Producer of Rockers in Recovery along with John Hollis. John has been extremely generous in including me on this most incredible journey…and you know what folks? We are just getting started. The best is yet to come!

You can find out more about Recovery Palooza and the Northwest Music Scene by looking us up on Facebook.

    Mike Zito Music Review

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Jul.21, 2010, under Home

    Mike Zito

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Zito was immersed in the gritty sounds of the south side that would unknowingly become the groundwork of his future in music. Like the legends before him, music has coursed through his veins from the early age of five, when he began singing and performing. It didn’t take long for him to discover his instrument of choice – electric guitar – after receiving a Van Halen record for his birthday. His education and journey were just starting – little did he know he would find himself among such legends at a local guitar shop just out of high school. “Everyone from Chuck Berry to Bennie Smith came in that store,” Zito shares of his experience. “I soaked up the sounds of that store and began building my own style.”

Zito’s journey took off at the age of 19, when he busted into the local St. Louis music scene, developing his sound even further from the stage. His first independent release arrived in 1996, titled “Blue Room” which included raw and funky songs “Hollywood” and “Pull the Trigger”. His songwriting experience would break through on his sophomore release titled “America’s Most Wanted” in 1999. This album shares his pop sensibilities and intense guitar work. “Crazy People”, “Deal Me In” and his own rendition of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” all set the pace to bring him into a national audience.

Jeff Duncan started playing guitar at the age of 10 and first cemented his reputation in the history of heavy metal as a co-founder and guitarist of ODIN.

Formed in 1980, ODIN unleashed a powerful sound that bridged the gap between the purest form of metal and a star-driven image without compromising the bands omnipotent edge. Playing to… packed houses all over the Southern California region, ODIN sold out every major venue in Los Angeles. The bands stronghold on the scene spawned a bidding war between several major labels. By 1988, Duncan’s stature took on another dimension when he joined heavy metal stalwarts Armored Saint. Today, Jeff remains a definitive member of Armored Saint in which his role has expanded to co-writer on such classic cuts as “Last Train Home” and the title track to what is considered by many fans to be the bands finest hour, Symbol of Salvation.

The management and staff of the 19th Annual Pocono Blues Festival welcomes you to three days of world class blues. We are very proud of being nationally recognized as one of the top blues festivals in the world. Since 1992, we have showcased more than 300 national and international bands.

This year, our lineup consists of 19 national recording artitsts including the big names Mavis Staples, Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and several artists that you may have heard but have never seen before that perform an eclectic mix of the full spectrum of the music, showcasing contemporary and traditional electric and acoustic blues, rhythm and blues, sacred steel gospel music, and zydeco music.

We have had so many historic memories throughout the first 18 years. Do you remember Eddie Clearwater entering the festival on a white stallion in 1998, or Shemekia Copeland making her grand entrance to the stage on a Harley Davidson in 2002?

Whether this is your first Pocono Blues Festival or your 19th, it is our sincere hope that you enjoy every minute of your experience at the festival and the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
